Past Perfect Continuous.

How to form the Past Perfect Continuous:

The Past Perfect Continuous is formed with the subject + auxiliary verb 'have' in the past simple had + been + ing form of the verb.

 

The Past Perfect Continuous
Subject Auxiliary 'had' been verb + ing
I had been playing
You had  been playing
He had  been playing
She had  been playing
It had  been playing
We had been playing
You had  been playing
They had  been playing

 

Past Perfect Continuous - negative:

 I had not been playing / I hadn't been playing.

To form the Past Perfect Continuous negative use the auxilliary verb 'have' in the past simple + not  (had not / hadn't) + been + ing form of the verb.

I had not / hadn't been playing

Past Perfect Continuous - Questions:

 Had I been playing?

To make questions with the Past Perfect Continuous use the auxiliary verb 'had' + subject + been + ing form of the verb.
