Past Continuous.

How to form the Past Continuous:

The Past Continuous is formed with the subject + was / were + ing form of the verb.

Verbs ending in e, remove e and add  -ing          write - she was writing.

 

The Past Continuous
Subject auxiliary verb verb + ing
I was talking
You were listening
He was eating
She was listening
It was raining
We were walking
You were going
They were reading

 

Past Continuous - Negative:

I was not playing / I wasn't playing.

The present continuous negative is formed with subject + was / were + not (wasn't / weren't) + ing form of the verb.

She was not listening
It was not raining

Past Continuous - Questions:

Was I playing?

To make questions with the Past Continuous use was / were + subject + ing form of the verb.

Past Continuous - Negative Questions:

Wasn't I playing?

To make negative questions with the Past Continuous use was / were + not = wasn't / weren't + subject + ing form of the verb.
